Entertainment law or media law is a term referred to a field of law which focus on providing legal services to the entertainment industry. Entertainment Law is a branch of commercial law that deals with different forms of media such as: music, theatre, sports, dance, literature, architecture, visual arts, internet and television industries.
Entertainment law is more related to intellectual property law. But at the same time various fields of law are involved in entertainment law. Questions of employment law, labor law, intellectual property including trademarks, copyright, and right of publicity, bankruptcy law, immigration, securities law, security interests, agency, right of privacy, defamation, clearance of rights, product placement, advertising, international law and insurance law arise in matters relating to entertainment law.
The work of an entertainment lawyer is mostly transaction or documentation based, like drafting contracts, negotiation and mediation. However, some situations may also lead to litigation or arbitration.
